Google Don’t Have all the Answers

As a product manager, I knew I needed to be a research person, get informed about what’s happening in your industries and competitor.

I thought I could get all I needed online. I searched and searched, I got some answers but not all that I needed.

So, what can you do when you are not getting the information you need online? Its simple, go offline, yes offline.

If you can’t do this on your own as a product manager, you can outsource or employ some company researchers.

What exactly would the offline research be like/be about?

  1. Get people ready- This may be you or some experienced researchers

2. Educate them on the goal of the research: let them:

a)understand the market so if you already have a target market, go out and meet them, ask them questions, get to understand how they relate with their business

b) Document your findings - the interesting thing is that you would get a lot of findings, a lot of new things, great ideas. Do make sure you pen them down. You can use google form, google docs and even record your discussions.

C. After all these is done, summarise your findings and then you are good to go. By now, you would have gotten a new information and or validated your idea.

So these is the steps I took, you can try it too.

Goodluck.
